Learning by Doing

Our most evident objective is to promote service. Through our 110+ community partnerships, we send over 2,500 volunteers yearly to serve, but the value of these interactions do more than just boost a student’s resume; at Madison House, we recognize service to be transformative for all parties involved. Our student volunteers learn that supporting others is a reward in itself and that service is cyclical and reciprocal — it is a way of being and a lifestyle that shapes our volunteers for the rest of their lives.

Madison House’s 50-year history and culture of student-led service embody and exemplify President Ryan’s vision of UVA as a community that is “synonymous with service.” However, because current program resources are approaching capacity, and more meaningful collaborations with community partners and UVA are needed, we prioritize investing in Strengthening Service Through Partnerships.
